“ Me and my dad went here for dinner. We ordered their special of the day which was bowl of French onion soup along with a pineapple-teriyaki burger and fries. We were quite surprised with the French onion soup which had a sweet aftertaste. When we inquired with our server, they mentioned that the soup had Coca-cola mixed in with it. We told them to send our compliments to the chef because it was very tasty! The burger was also well done and delicious. The atmosphere inside was very cozy with many people starting to come in for dinner. A nice place for dinner in the downtown area. ”
“ Such an amazing place! The food is SOOO good, I got the fried pickles with chipotle ranch, and the garlic Parmesan chicken breast. Absolutely amazing. The tropical martini is good as well! Cole, the manager was absolutely amazing, best server I’ve had. He was friendly and attentive. I highly recommend this place to eat! ”
“ I always enjoy when historic downtown areas reinvent themselves with new shops and restaurants. Recess is a good example of the potential it has a diverse Southern menu at good prices. The portions are sizable, well-presented, and tasty. We sat at the bar due to big crowd on a Tuesday evening. That’s always a good sign. Our server/bartender worked hard and was making lots of drinks, while staying attentive. I’ll definitely be back when in the area again. ”
“ I haven’t been by recently but I have always enjoyed Recess. I often used to get their meatloaf or a burger (which my husband got tonight and loved.) this evening, I got the garlic parm fried chicken thighs with Brussels and Gouda grits. It was the best meal I have had in quite some time! Can’t wait to come back! ”

“ Good spot with a fun menu. Service can sometimes be a little on the slower side but that's because they can get pretty busy. Staff is friendly and the food is good, but a bit pricey. I don't drink but the bar area seems pretty neat. Parking is no longer an issue now that downtown Gainesville has parking decks and road work is done with. Can get a little loud inside depending where you get seated. ”
